Synthetic Life Group is a collaborative project involving artists Charles Gershom and Reverend Tate (Benjamin Buck). Synthetic Life Group  engages with research through practice in an effort to articulate the experience of intuitive creative processes. Projects use various elements of new media which initiate an instance with intuitive sound.

To facilitate the performative state we seek to limit interference from mental preconceptions involved in the process of sound generation. Working in a performative state is central to the process of the Synthetic Life Group  research practice, and results in the production of new experiences, performative layers and mythologies. Projects can take the form of audio generation, performance, video, and installations utilising new media technologies. When engaging in intuitive processes of sound generation, a body of audio ephemera is created which are used as building blocks for further projects.

  • Synthetic Life Group draws on references from high and low culture, factual and pseudo-science to create interpretations of how machines might perceive information generated by human senses.
  • Synthetic Life Group uses research through practice to generate a comprehensive self-referencing digital archive, a library of content.
  • Synthetic Life Group uses this research archive to maintain discourse into the effect technology has on the boundaries between man and machine, and the differences in perception of reality between both.
